Shreyas Iyer named India T20I captain, Tilak Varma vice-captain; Vaibhav Sooryavanshi picked in all three

Shreyas Iyer has been appointed India’s new T20I captain for the upcoming series against Ireland and England, as well as the 2026 Asian Games, the Ajit Agarkar-led BCCI selection committee announced on Saturday. Tilak Varma has been named vice-captain.

Fifteen-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has also earned a landmark call-up, securing a place in all three senior squads after his impressive performances in IPL 2026.
Shreyas replaces Suryakumar Yadav at the helm of India’s T20I side, with the former captain not featuring in the newly announced T20I squads.

Shreyas’ elevation follows an impressive run of form in domestic and franchise cricket, where he combined consistent batting performances with strong leadership credentials.
